Hou Yifan gives away her final round in five moves
Women’s World Champion Hou Yifan from China has apologised for giving away her game this morning against Lalith Babu M R from India in the last round of the Tradewise Gibraltar Chess Festival within five moves.
In an exclusive interview with the Festival press team Hou Yifan tells Tania Sachdev she apologised to chess players, to her fans and those following the Gibraltar Masters.

ad drawn seven women players out of 10 rounds.
Tournament organiser, Brian Callaghan, interviewed directly after the Women’s World Champion, was disappointed at what had happened and felt she had let herself down. Being a World Champion he said brought with it a great responsibility.
Although sympathetic about her reason for giving her game away, Mr Callaghan was quite clear that he did not believe the pairings had been wrong or that the move by Hou Yifan had damaged the tournament. But he did refer to the world champion having had a “bad day at the office”.
Mr Callaghan insisted the festival had welcomed her several times to the Rock and the festival had always been a keen promoter of the women’s game in chess and that this would continue into the future.

La campeona del mundo femenina Hou Yifan de China se disculpó por regalar su juego esta mañana contra Lalith Babu M R de India en la última ronda del Tradewise Gibraltar Chess Festival dentro de cinco movimientos.
En una entrevista exclusiva con el equipo de prensa del Festival Hou Yifan le dice a Tania Sachdev que se disculpó con los jugadores de ajedrez, sus fans y los que siguieron a los Maestros de Gibraltar.
Hou Yifan dijo que había estado insatisfecha y había estado molesta con los emparejamientos durante todo el torneo, ya que había atraído a siete mujeres jugadoras de las 10 rondas.
El organizador del torneo, Brian Callaghan, entrevistado directamente después del Campeón del Mundo Femenino, se sintió decepcionado por lo ocurrido y sintió que se había decepcionado. Ser campeón del mundo dijo que trajo consigo una gran responsabilidad.
Aunque comprensivo con su razón para dar su juego lejos, Sr. Callaghan era absolutamente claro que él no creía que los emparejamientos habían estado mal o que el movimiento de Hou Yifan había dañado el torneo. Pero se refirió al campeón del mundo que había tenido un «mal día en la oficina».
El Sr. Callaghan insistió en que el festival la había acogido varias veces a la Roca y el festival siempre había sido un entusiasta promotor del juego de las mujeres en el ajedrez y que esto continuaría en el futuro.
