After getting their best grid position of the season so far yesterday, Can Öncü and the Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto3 team wrapped up a positive weekend by finishing today’s race in the points, in 14th place. The young Turkish star made a great start, riding with the leading group until the halfway point of the contest. Öncü also recorded the best race lap at the German track: 1:26.714.

The Red Bull KTM Ajo rookie began the race on a high note, moving up from 12th to 8th in just one lap. The 15-year-old rider joined a large leading group of 15 riders, which saw constants jostling for positions, before eventually he lost some ground. In the final part of the competition he was able to fight among his lot and overtake two rivals, to cross the finish line in 14th position, earning his first points of 2019.

The next race for the Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto3 team is the Czech GP, which will be held at the Brno circuit from 2nd – 4th August.

“I’m very pleased with the work we did in the race today. Overall, it’s been a great weekend for us, as we improved in each session. Beside that, in the race we took another step forward, by getting our first points of the year. Furthermore, I made a great start and I was able to stay in contact with the leading group, which was one of our goals. This race has given us good experience, as I learned a lot by being with the top riders and that’s very positive. During the summer I will train as hard as I can in order to be ready for the next race.”
